Give your YouTube Channel a Theme to Increase Subscribers
You'll see that most top YouTube channels stick to a single theme.
Derek Halpern's channel is an example.
[TAG1]
Many of his YouTube videos are about business and success.
A theme makes it easier to create consistent YouTube content because you know the type of topics that you will cover.
You can also make your channel the "go-to" place for specific content. People who are passionate about a niche will subscribe to your channel.
Your videos could be about Facebook marketing for business owners.
A subscriber to your YouTube channel will receive an update each time you post content.
They can stay ahead of the game without doing much work.
You might find it difficult to choose a theme for your channel. Think about the problems you solve and who your target audience are.
Next, create videos about the topics that are most relevant to your audience.
Create Amazing Content to Get Free YouTube Subscribers
Many marketers agree that video converts more than any other media.
You need to know how to create amazing content on YouTube to drive conversions.
Subscribers to your channel sign up to receive updates when new content is published.
People will be happy to hear from you again if your content is good. This is because they had a positive experience with you and your content.
It doesn't matter if it's an educational experience, entertainment, or both, it's well worth the effort to watch your videos.
People will spend the time to see great content. If you are wondering how to get YouTube subscribers, remember that great content is essential.
How can you create amazing content that viewers love to share and subscribe?
Make sure you are creating content that is relevant for your audience. It should be useful and address a problem that they are facing.
It shouldn't take too much effort to find valuable topics that your users are interested in if you stick to a theme.
These are some of the tips you can use.
Search YouTube for Popular Keywords
Let's suppose you are looking to start a channel about pencil drawing.
You can easily create content ideas by entering the keyword 'pencil drawing" into the YouTube search engine.
YouTube is the 2nd-largest global search engine, so we know that there are some relevant data.
You'll get suggestions for topics if you enter your main keyword.
[TAG2]
These topics are quite broad so you might want to choose one of the keywords and repeat the process to create something more specific.
Let's say that we add the word "tutorial" to our example.
[TAG3]
We now see more concise keywords.
These keywords are included in the suggestions to let us know that people are looking for these videos.
It is possible to argue that there is too much competition for these keywords.
Although this may sound true, we will show you how to get people to see our videos even if there is much competition.
This approach has the advantage of giving you a starting point.
This technique allows us to determine what content is most popular in a particular niche.
Ubersuggest, my tool for keyword research on YouTube is also a great one. You can simply type your key phrase and click on "Keyword ideas" in right sidebar. It will then display more than 400 keywords that you can consider.
[TAG4]
To generate content ideas, you can also use Google Keyword Planner. This is because YouTube and Google search results will have some consistency.
Let's keep the discussion on 'pencil drawing'.
[TAG5]
These keywords aren't searched often, which might lead you to believe they're not worth the effort.
We don't just want to upload a few videos and then forget about it.
A YouTube channel requires a lot content. One of the most popular YouTube channels actually has more than 4,400 videos.
You need to be able niche down your content to make it easy to publish large amounts of content and still keep it relevant. Each video must have value.
It's only natural for searches to drop in your niche.
Even if your keywords are low volume, they will all work together to build momentum and establish you in a YouTube niche.
Also, you'll notice that there's not a lot of content available for lower volume search terms. This is a great opportunity.
Take a look at what happens when you type the keyword "Simple drawing techniques" into your browser.
[TAG6]
There aren’t any optimized titles, or videos that are based on simple drawing techniques.
You can improve the production quality of your YouTube videos
You feel like you are doing everything right, but you still don't have subscribers. YouTube subscribers can also be attained by producing quality.
You're doing a great job if your videos have a lot of value and give the viewer the information they need.
Once the videos are bringing you a return you can then focus on production quality.
Here are some tips:
Make sure that your message is easily understood. Communicate clearly and enthusiastically.
People might not understand your message if they don't. They may even become bored.
An external microphone may be necessary if you are recording content with a smartphone or laptop.
Also, ensure your video is easy-to-view.
It is important that viewers can see what is happening. You need to make sure the lighting is sufficient.
Make sure your face is clearly visible if you are recording a talk head video.
Make sure that the camera is stable when you are being recorded by someone else.
These are just a few ways you can improve your video quality.
Enhance the Quality of Your YouTube Videos
Video editing is about improving the style of your videos and not fixing minor errors. You will make mistakes in your video recording process more often than you think. These mistakes don't have to be ignored unless they affect watchability. They might actually be beneficial because they can show people that you aren't just a media salesman.
When you need to make cuts in your video or add a title, editing can be a great option.
You could also look for someone at Upwork that specializes in YouTube video editing, or even Fiverr if you aren't an experienced editor.
You could also purchase a video editing software and learn how to edit everything by yourself.
This method may save you money but you will spend more time learning how you can edit your videos. Depending on your situation, this might not be the best deal.
You don't want your videos to be too edited, but you do want to give them a style that is unique from others.
This can be done by creating custom intro music and a title screen.
You can also create videos that feature your product.
Demonstrations videos are a great way to show your product as something that is worth purchasing.
You can also convert some blog posts into video os.
Increase your YouTube subscribers by posting more often
This is the most difficult part of growing a YouTube audience, but it can also be the most important.
Consistently posting content is a great way to be competitive with other businesses who post only a few times per month or even a few times per year.
People will subscribe if you are constantly sharing new content.
People are less likely to sign up if you don't post anymore. Why should they?
Using the tips above, it is easy to come up with new ideas for content.
It is easy to create a schedule and follow it.
How often should you post new YouTube videos?
Keep things simple by looking at the competition and then attempting to outdo them. You should aim to post three times per week if they post twice per week.
Sometimes, however the best plan is one that you can stick with.
Consistency is key as it will keep subscribers returning for more. This will increase YouTube views and improve engagement.
These are the most common forms of engagement for a video:
- Thumbs up, thumbs down (though downvotes can be hidden now)
- Social sharing
- Subscribe
- Comment
- Favoriting
You want to increase engagement in each category.
Remember that Twitter shares more than 700 videos per minute. YouTube is not a social network site but it can be a useful tool for social media marketing.
Engaging viewers will make your video more visible in the YouTube search engine. This will increase your reach and encourage more people to subscribe.
You can view statistics about the performance of your videos by going to your YouTube analytics dashboard.
[TAG7]
Posting content is possible without being at a computer. Google offers a scheduling feature that allows you to post content on a regular basis.
Click on the "Upload" button to schedule a video.
Next, click on the dropdown menu to select the "Scheduled" option.
[TAG8]
Drag and drop your video or click on the icon to save it.
You can adjust your scheduling options on the next screen.
[TAG9]
Enter the date and the time that you would like the video to go live.
Subscribers to your channel will receive a message when your video goes online.
If you have a social media platform, make sure to add the date to your calendar. This will ensure that tweets, Meta updates and LinkedIn posts are all sent simultaneously.
You might also want to reach out to people on your email list if they are interested in your video.
You might consider stumbling the messages so that you don't bombard people on multiple platforms at once.
Consider Turning Long Videos into Multiple Short Videos
You might consider breaking up long videos into shorter ones if you have trouble coming up with content ideas.
You will likely cover multiple points on a single topic in long videos.
You can edit certain topics to create mini videos. You can also share shorter videos on social networks.
Hubspot actually found that 2 minutes was the best video length for YouTube to reach their audience.
"Inside Quest" is a channel that posts long content. Here is one of their videos. It is almost 49 minutes long.
[TAG10]
The video length can seem intimidating to someone who is new to the channel.
They have also broken the video down into 'highlight clips' that highlight important points and subjects.
[TAG11]
These videos are only around one minute long.
A short video can be a great way for people to discover your channel and get a taster of your content.
Evergreen YouTube Videos
You can also create evergreen content to generate subscribers.
These videos will still be relevant five years from now.
This is true for some niches more than others.
I have already spoken about pencil drawing, which naturally lends itself for producing lots of timeless content. However, a video on Instagram marketing might not be relevant in five years.
Look at your niche to see if you are able to create videos that show how it works.
Even if you don't want to create evergreen content it is worth making 'how to' videos to add value.
Optimize your Videos to Increase YouTube Subscribers
To subscribe to your channel, someone must first click on the videos.
Your video will be challenged by other videos, no matter how great it is.
How can you get people to click on your video and pay attention?
Three areas are important: the headline, the thumbnail and the description.
These three elements are the most influential in getting YouTube users to click your videos. Make sure your meta tag includes key points and is relevant.
Because they will help you rank higher in YouTube's search engine, and encourage users to share your videos on social media.
We'll also cover YouTube cards and categories that can drive clicks.
How to Write a Great Headline for YouTube Videos
Include a keyword in your title if your video is focused on that keyword. This will increase the likelihood of people clicking on your video.
If the title of the video matches their search, they will assume that the video covers all they need to know about the topic.
However, this doesn't necessarily mean that you should add it five more times.
Keyword stuffing can cause more harm than good.
A colon can be used to solve this problem.
We identified the keyword'simple drawings techniques' earlier.
We could headline a video about this topic with the following: 'Simple Drawing Techniques: 5 Tips That Make Drawing Easier'
Side note: It might be a good idea to divide the title "Simple Drawing Techniques" into different niches. This is a popular social media marketing strategy for blogs and videos.
You can use simple drawing techniques to draw cars or eyes, for example.
This is an excellent example of how to take a large keyword or niche receiving lots of traffic and find opportunities within that niche.
It's best to be open-minded, but you never know what opportunities might present themselves.
[TAG12]
The video title, as you can see above, uses a colon in order to separate the text.
' symbol is being used.
[TAG13]
You can test which symbol works best, but it may be that the colon serves a similar purpose.
It is important to include both what people are looking for and what they are most interested in. This can be done by including the keyword in your video's headline, and then adding power words.
The headline will be affected by the style of your videos, as we have already discussed. You'll need to include a how-to video in your headline.
YouTube headlines are similar to those used in blog posts. However, numbers work best when they include numbers.
Engaging YouTube Thumbnails
Thumbnails, which are small images that users see in search results or sidebars, can have a significant impact on views.
A clear image of the subject matter of the video will help you make the most of the space. If you are talking about a laptop for example, you might include a photo of the laptop.
As such:
[TAG14]
You could also show a photo of someone interacting with the video.
As an example:
[TAG15]
However, text is becoming a powerful way to create video thumbnails.
[TAG16]
You can't just add text and call it good. The thumbnail image can be heavily edited to make it stand out.
[TAG17]
These are the rules to follow when creating thumbnails such as this.
[TAG18]
Create a Custom Thumbnail to YouTube Videos
Canva allows you to create thumbnails.
You might find it helpful to go through the initial setup of Canva.
You can use their YouTube thumbnail template to get started.
[TAG19]
Upload your images and overlay text.
You can upload a custom thumbnail to a video by following the usual upload process.
Select the "Custom thumbnail" option on the page where video information is added.
[TAG20]
You now have a thumbnail that you can display on YouTube.
Improve YouTube Descriptions
A description for YouTube videos can be as long as a post. This article will cover the basics.
Remember that YouTube uses this space to rank your content. The meta tag is important and must not be ignored.
In the search results, it is important that the first few lines are easy to understand.
Here's an excellent example.
[TAG21]
You might want to include some keywords from your title in this section. This will ensure your video has coherence. This will improve your video's ranking.
Clicking on your video will open the possibility to click the "Show More" text.
[TAG22]
This will expand the description. This space can be used to insert a link to subscribe to the channel.
If you want to do that, use the following link format: https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=
After the '=.', make sure you put your channel name.
So, for Kissmetrics, it would be: https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=Kissmetric
Clicking on the link will take them to your channel page. There, a subscribe box will appear.
Other information such as important links and social media profiles can be added to the description.
[TAG23]
You can also describe what is being discussed in your video by using this format:
[TAG24]
Highlight topics in your video that are discussed at specific times. For example, 21:48 – How can you prevent Google from penalizing your website.
These timestamps direct users to the desired location in the video.
You should also add tags to increase the likelihood of your video being found in YouTube's search engine.
[TAG25]
Avoid using misleading tags. Use a few specific tags to describe your video and then add some broad tags about the genre.
It's okay to use the suggested tags as long as they are relevant to what your video is about.
Get YouTube Subscribers for Free
YouTube annotations were once the best way for users to interact with you by adding links to your video.
Annotations were however disruptive and were therefore discontinued. They were then deleted in 2019.
YouTube cards are now an option. With a custom image, text and call to actions, you can add up five cards to your YouTube video.
This is how to make a YouTube card for your video.
Click on the "Video" option in the "Video Manager". Next, click on the "Edit" dropdown menu to select the video that you wish to add a card.
Next, select the "Cards" option.
[TAG26]
This screen should now be visible.
[TAG27]
Click on the "Add card" option, then select the "Channel."
[TAG28]
Next, type your channel name and then add text.
[TAG29]
The teaser text appears on the small graphic in the video.
Here's how it will look.
[TAG30]
Adjust the slider to change the time the card displays the teaser text.
[TAG31]
However, you'll be able to see that the 'i" will always be visible in video.
The following will be visible if you hover your mouse cursor over the "i" symbol.
[TAG32]
You can also get this card at the time that you select above.
This will direct users to your YouTube channel by clicking on it.
Engage Your YouTube Audience
Engaging with your audience and building a community is another way to increase your YouTube subscribers.
This can be done in many ways.
Response to YouTube Viewer Comments
It is simple, but effective, to respond to comments. This will let YouTube viewers know that you value their opinions. You might also encourage them to subscribe by showing that you care.
[TAG33]
You should promptly address any negative comments you receive on YouTube videos.
This interaction can help increase YouTube subscribers as people see it and appreciate that you are engaging.
Hosting a Q&A Session
This can be done via Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube Live. Even better, you might ask viewers at the end of the video to leave their questions in comments.
Next, review the questions that you have received and then answer them in the video.
Ask Viewers: What Do They Want
You can also engage your audience by creating videos that are based on their needs. You could ask your audience to fill out a survey asking them what topics they would like you to cover.
The viewer can suggest videos and you can thank them in the video.
You might consider collaborating with other YouTube video creators
Collaborations can greatly increase your video marketing efforts.
[TAG34]
This is the best way to do it. Find channels that have a similar audience.
You could arrange an event for both of you where you can benefit from each other's interaction.
You must encourage others to subscribe to your channel when you collaborate.
Make sure your videos are great and publish them immediately after the collaboration. This will encourage people to subscribe.
Host Interviews to Increase YouTube Subscribers
You could also consider interviewing people on your channel. Interviewing the best people in your niche will bring them to your channel.
You'll attract more interviews with high-profile people as your channel subscribers increase.
You shouldn't let low subscribers stop your efforts.
Ask a few people to email you and ask if they would be interested in being a guest on your channel.
If they refuse to answer, ask them if they would be open to having more subscribers. Ask them for a rough estimate of the number they would be willing to accept.
Although you don't wish to be rude, it's okay to ask for a possible way to do it.
YouTube Ads
Yes, I did say you could increase YouTube subscribers free of paid ads. You can certainly use the strategies mentioned above. After you have grown a little, it may be worthwhile to invest in YouTube Ads.
Target keywords for your videos to get the best results with ads
This will ensure that your videos are at the top search results for the keyword you have entered.
[TAG35]
You might start by getting to know the platform if you're just getting started. Ads can be a great way to get subscribers and views if you have a solid YouTube monetization strategy.
