Artificial intelligence is transforming content marketing and SEO in a big way. AI tools make content creation more efficient and time-saving, but businesses must be aware of potential risks and pitfalls when using AI-generated material.
Brody Dorland and I, the co-founders of DivvyHQ and myself, hosted a webinar in order to share our experiences with AI tools and to warn others about their use. In order to start our discussion, we acknowledged the new tools that have emerged in the last few months. We then addressed the growing number of questions from clients.
Our goal as passionate content creators and marketers is to inform our audience about the tools that we have been testing, and to dispel any myths regarding AI in content marketing. The webinar was designed to be interactive and we encouraged participants to share their experiences and ask questions.
You didn't miss anything if you missed our discussion. This is a quick summary of the most recent and best topics in AI and content marketing.
Quick Takeaways
-
While AI can be used to create and edit content, it cannot replace human expertise or the personal touch that comes from writing
-
Human-generated content is still essential to the content creation industry
-
By exploring and testing the capabilities of AI tools, while remaining aware of their limitations, businesses can stay on top of the trends in content marketing and SEO.
To understand the relationship between AI, content marketing and its benefits and risks while also keeping in mind the limitations of AI is to balance the pros and cons.
AI and Content Marketing: The Future
Will AI and content-marketing live happily everafter? Will AI and content marketing live happily ever after? Here's some hot gossip.
AI and SEO
We began by discussing the use of AI for SEO. I quoted a prominent industry expert who predicted that SEO was dead and AI would take over the world. We recognized the potential of AI but did not agree with some of the extreme predictions. We warned against ignoring risks.
AI and Content Creation
We also discussed AI's limitations for content creation. This was particularly true in terms of its ability to access real-time internet databases and verify facts. AI predicts answers based on past learning – which is derived from reading all the content on the Internet (only until 2021).
AI and Ownership
We also raised the issue of ownership for AI-generated content. We pointed out that businesses who use AI to create content do not own the material. Our contracts prevent us from creating AI-generated content for our clients.
As a business owner, I am also concerned that our writers are relying on AI tools too much to create content. We use training, guidance and plagiarism-checking tools to ensure that our content is original, written by humans, authentic and based on the needs of clients.
Content Marketing and AI: A Cautionary Tale
We then shared some cautionary stories about the use AI in content marketing. A marketing expert used the GPT-3 to create content on a niche industry website. Google penalized the website for lacking human-generated content, even though the content was able to generate traffic on a short-term basis.

We still highlighted the benefits that AI could bring to content marketing and search engine optimization. We encouraged companies to explore these tools' capabilities and test them, but with caution.
AI-Generated Content: The Challenges
There are many benefits of using AI for content creation and editing. These include saving time, generating new ideas and even saving money. However, there are some challenges that we should also be aware of.
Insufficient human experience and expertise
AI tools are able to provide instant responses to queries from users. Google has used AI to provide instant answers and search results for years.
However while AI can quickly provide solutions to simple queries and tasks, it can't convey what only humans are capable of:
- Truth is a logical assessment
- Emotion
- Humor
- Think leadership
- Personal experience
AI tools may not have the same expertise and personal touch as human writers. While chatbots and style checkers can be great tools for generating content or writing articles, they might not produce high-quality content that resonates well with your audience.
What if you want to just go into "bot-mode?"
Creating Effective Prompts
AI is lacking in human expertise and experience, so context and prompts are essential when using AI tools. AI tools can be helped to focus on a particular subject by providing clear prompts and contextual information.
Brody and I explored the idea that "effective prompt creation" could become an increasingly important skill in the content-creation industry, giving individuals a competitive advantage on the job market.
We have explained that prompts can be used to generate content ideas and tailored to certain niches or industries. It is important to remember that prompts shouldn't be used too much, as they can lead to "low-quality" or derivative content.
Some AI-writing software allows for a "bot" mode, where the tool only writes using a limited set information. It is pretty much what you'd expect. The bot is very similar.
AI is not a panacea. It can only help in the initial stages of content creation – planning, ideation and so on. AI will not replace the expertise and experience of humans when it comes to lead generation and marketing strategy.
AI can suggest amazing recipes. AI can recommend amazing recipes, but it cannot cook your dinner.
It is also important to remember that AI-generated search engine results may be in violation of spam policies, if the intent behind it is to manipulate the search results.
Just Friends: AI and Content marketing
All of this means that there is an AI paradox that we must consider. AI tools are helpful in certain areas of content creation, but they cannot replace the human-generated content which demonstrates authority, expertise and trust.
DivvyHQ, a workflow tool, is a great way to integrate AI tools into content creation. These tools are perfect for tasks such as:
- Checking spellings and grammar
- Following a style guide
- Generating alternative blog headlines
- Create email and social media copy
We shared our final thoughts and invited participants to ask questions. We stressed the importance of finding a balance between the risks and benefits of AI for content marketing and SEO and the need to be aware of their limitations.
These tools can revolutionize the industry, but businesses must be cautious and aware that there are risks and pitfalls. We can remain competitive in the world of SEO and content marketing by continuing to test and explore AI tools.

You may have some questions and answers from the Webinar
What resources are available to help me learn and use prompts?
Many resources are available, including Chrome plugins for chat-GPT. We recommend that you use Chat-GPT to become a prompt engineer, and search for articles about prompts.
Q: Who is the owner of content created by Chat GPT?
The ownership is unclear. However, according to the copyright offices, if ChatGPT converts a webinar transcription into an article, then the creators of that webinar will NO LONGER OWN the article. I used AI software to create a summation of a summarized summary of a summarized summary of this article. It took about an hour and three tries. Then, I went back and re-wrote all the output. So, I'm the owner.
Q: Will search engines such as Google penalize the use of AI-generated content?
A: Search engines look for content of high quality that demonstrates expertise and human experience. Content creators are encouraged to focus on producing quality content which provides readers with the best possible answers. Google has said that it will not penalize AI-generated content such as weather, sports scores and stats. It states that AI-generated search ranking content will be penalized.
Q: Do I need to use different tools when writing prompts?
A: It all depends on what the user wants and needs. Saving time by experimenting with different tools to find the ones that produce the best results will save you time over the long term.
Q: Can writing for people or writing for search engine be integrated into Chat-GPT's use?
Search engines are looking for engaging content, so writing for your audience and creating content of high quality is important. Use tools like Chat-GPT to generate FAQs and outlines, but not full-length articles.
Learn about AI and content marketing
We have the feeling that AI and content are going to be friends for a very long time.
While AI has changed the way content marketing and search engine optimization are done, it is not a solution that fits all. AI tools can be very useful, but we must strike a balance.
